To a stirred solution of 2-chloro-5H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyrazine, 3a, (1.54 g, 0.01 mol) in DMF (38 mL) was N-bromsuccinimide (1.78 g, 10.00 mmol). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1.5h until the reaction was complete. The mixture was poured into EtOAc and the organic layer was washed with several portions of brine. The organic layer was dried (MgS04), filtered and concentrated in vacuo.
