The reaction mixture is poured into 200 ml of ice-water (containing 0.5% by weight of ammonia and 0.1% by weight of sodium disulfite) and left at 5 C. for 12 hours. The resultant precipitate is filtered off with suction, washed with 100 ml of ice-water and dried in vacuo: 7-iodo-5H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyrazine as yellow solid.
