A solution of lithium hydroxide monohydrate (2.73 g, 65.0 mmol) in H20 (30.0 mL) was added to a suspension of ethyl 4-oxo-4,5 ,6,7-tetrahydropyrazolo [1,5 -a]pyrazine-2- carboxylate (2.72 g, 13.0 mmol) in THF (30 mL) and MeOH (30 mL) at 0 C.
