The combined organic layers are washed with water (30 ml), brine (30 ml), dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and evaporated in vacuo to get the crude product, which is purified by column chromatography (silica gel, 10% acetone/hexane) to yield 3-chloro-5-morpholin-4-yl-pyrazine-2-carboxylic acid methylester (1.10 g, 4.28 mmol, 73%).
