Pyrazine-2-carb aldehyde A round bottom flask was charged with pyrazine carboxylic acid (17.7 g, 140 mMol), methanol (200 mL) and conc. sulphuric acid (2 mL) and the mixture was stirred at reflux for 4 hrs then left to stand overnight. Purification by column chromatography (silica gel, dichloromethane) gave pyrazinecarboxylic acid methyl ester 13.5 g as a white solid.
