20.0 g (174.6 mmol) 2-chloropyrazine are added dropwise to 60.0 ml (61.7 g, 1.2 mol) hydrazine hydrate. The mixture is stirred at a bath temperature of 120 C. for 45 min. For working up, the cooled reaction mixture is left to stand at 2 C. for 12 h, the crystals which have precipitated out are filtered off and the residue on the filter is washed twice with petroleum ether.
