General procedure: To a stirred solution of2-hydrazinopyridines 1a-k or 2-hydrazinopyrazines 2a-f (1equiv.) and aldehyde 3a-k (1equiv.) in polyethyleneglycol (PEG) (10 mL) were added p-TsOH (5 mol%)) and DDQ (2 equiv.).
