[0077] Method A- oxylate [0078] To a stirred solution of 2-aminopyrazine (1.0 g, 10.5 mmol) in dimethoxyethane, ethyl bromopyruvate (2.36 g, 13.0 mmol) was added at room temperature and stirred for 2.5 hours. The reaction mixture was cooled to 0C and stirred for 30 min to afford a pale brown precipitate. The precipitate was filtered and washed with ethyl acetate to give a pale brown solid. The precipitate was suspended in 50 mL ethyl alcohol and heated at reflux temperature to turn to a clear solution. After refluxing for 2 hours, the reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure and then mixed with CH2CI2 and saturated aqueous NaHCC>3 solution. The mixture was filtered through a pad of Celite, and the separated organic layer was dried by Na2S04 and filtered. The residue was applied to silica gel column chromatography, and the column was eluted with (CH2Cl2:MeOH = 99:1 to 97:3), and the collected fractions were concentrated under reduced pressure.
